Masingini Forest, Spice Tour &  Homecooked lunch

The Masingini Forest reserve is located only 20 minutes from Stone Town and covers over 1800 hectares of abundant flora and fauna.

It was established in 1950 initially to conserve the main ground water source for Zanzibar town area.
A true treasure chest of nature that makes you feel like you are in a rainforest.
There are plenty of monkeys (red and black colobus), different tree species and it’s a paradise for those who are into birding.
We have spotted the malachite kingfisher, the forest weaver, Madagascar squacco heron, little bulbul, olive sunbird and many others so don’t forget to take your binoculars!

The signposted trails are laid out with many breathtaking views over Stone Town and the Indian Ocean and there is a beautiful lake filled with waterlilies where you can view the weavers building their nests in the reed.

We will collect you from your hotel and take you to Masingini to team up with a guide who will lead you around this breathtaking reserve. After this we will go to one of the oldest Spice plantations for a spice tour and to round off your tour, we will prepare a delicious vegetarian lunch with falafel and coconut chutney, pilau, cream vegetables with coconut and fresh fruits which you will enjoy at a family’s home.
The tour starts at 0900am and ends at around 1500pm.
